On July 04, 2007 the NC General Assembly Approved HOUSE BILL 150
AN ACT FOR MODIFYING THE SCHOOL ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS TO ENSURE THAT
EVERY CHILD IS READY TO ENTER KINDERGARTEN AND THEREBY REDUCE STUDENT
DROPOUT RATES IN LATER GRADES.
The bill changed the Cut-Off Date for Kindergarten entry beginning The bill states that
beginning fall 2009 and thereafter, children must be five by Aug. 31 in order to begin
kindergarten in that school year. For fall 2007 and fall 2008, the cut-off date remains Oct. 16.
